What is Makaton?
Makaton is a unique language programme using a systematic multi-modal approach of speech, signs and symbols to teach communication, language and literacy skills to people with communication and learning difficulties.
Makaton is always used together with normal grammatical speech and is a source of highly functional vocabulary for people with communication needs and their interactive partners.
The Maggi Golding Award
It is will huge excitement that we present to you the winners of this year’s Makaton South Africa Maggi Golding Award. This Award is presented to both an individual and an organisation/team that uses Makaton to empower not only one or two people but a whole community around them to communicate with those that struggle with speech
The Winners
This year’s deserved winners are, in the individual category: Mariska Delport. Mariska is the Head of the Profound Phase at the Marietjie LSEN School in Secunda. Congratulations Marietjie!
And in the Organisation category the winner is Via Nova School in Pretoria. Congratulations to the whole team!!
